O projeto tem como objetivo desenvolver um repelente de mosquitos eficiente e inofensivo, evitando a utilização do DEET (N,N'-Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide), que é a substância mais utilizada entre os repelentes de mosquitos e questionada sobre sua toxicidade. Os mosquitos trazem muitos problemas para os humanos, milhares de mortes, e milhões de infectados anualmente, e não existem remédios para as doenças, além das vacinas. Para o combate contra esses insetos existem vários materiais, por exemplo os repelentes. As principais substâncias químicas repelentes são: DEET, Icaridina (1-piperidinecarboxylic acid 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-methylpropylester) e IR3535 (ethyl 3-[acetyl(butyl)amino]propanoate). A substância mais utilizada e eficiente entre os repelentes conhecidos é o DEET, sendo que alguns estudos indicam que o DEET é tóxico, e outros dizem que é atóxico. O DEET funciona mascarando o odor humano. Além das substâncias químicas, existem alguns óleos essenciais repelentes. Os principais são: óleo de citronela, óleo de andiroba e óleo de eucalipto-limão. Alguns repelentes ainda não têm eficácia comprovada. Em função dos problemas comentados, o objetivo deste trabalho é desenvolver um repelente para as espécies de mosquitos que não possua em sua composição compostos que possam prejudicar a saúde, como por exemplo o DEET (N,N'-Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide).

The project aims to develop an efficient and harmless mosquito repellent, avoiding the use of DEET (em>N, N'-Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide), which is the most commonly used substance among mosquito repellents, which is questioned as to its toxicity. The project was created for the reason that mosquitoes bring many problems to humans, thousands of deaths, and millions of infected annually, and there are no remedies for diseases beside the vaccines. To combat these insects there are various materials, for example repellents. The main chemical repellents are: DEET, Icaridina (1-piperidinecarboxylic acid 2- (2-hydroxyethyl) -1-methylpropylester) and IR3535 (ethyl 3- [acetyl (butyl) amino] propanoate). The most commonly used and effective substance among known repellents is DEET, but many studies indicate that DEET is toxic, and others say it is atoxic. DEET works by masking the human odor. Beyond the chemicals, are some essential oils repellent. The main ones are: citronella oil, andiroba oil and lemon eucalyptus oil. The most effective repellents according to studies are DEET, Picaridin and lemon eucalyptus oil. Some repellents may not have proven efficacy. Due to the problems mentioned, the project intends to make a new repellent, not harmful and with high efficiency.
