Descrição

Many people have heard of the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (AD | HD); however it is rare to hear about the attention deficit without hyperactivity disorder (ADWH), or just AD | HD predominantly inattentive. This happens because of the lack of knowledge of general people about ADWH; because of the lowest number of people with ADWH when compared to the number of people with AD/HD; and because of the behavior of children with ADWH, which is predominantly quiet (differently from the hyperactivity children), which is the expected behavior for a child. The main symptoms are: being easily distracted, not focus for more than a certain time, difficult to complete tasks. In childhood these characteristics are mistaken with laziness, disinterest, and other things that in time will make the self-esteem of the child to low down. People with ADWH do not usually use their full potential, because they cannot focus for a long time, since even little stimulus make they distractive and do not return their attention to what they were doing. Consequently, these children usually have bad grades at school, low sociability, and suffer with pressure of parents and teachers. In addition, there are no specific diagnostics for ADWH, making it even more difficult for the people who have this disorder. We had found that gifted children may be wrongly diagnosed with ADWH; however, the opposite does not happen, because there are almost no children with ADWH disorder that also are considered gifted. To improve the lives of these people, we aim to create a way to diagnose the children with ADWH disorder, in children between 6 to 10 years old, so these children would not have to face the consequences of this disorder for the whole life. Moreover, we aim to verify if there are a relevant percentage of gifted children with ADWH, so that we could not only avoid children to face the consequences of the disorder, but also let them know that these characteristics are special in some way.
